Boldin's replacement in Baltimore

08:04 AM ET 03.13 | Now that Baltimore has traded veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin, how will it replace him? The Ravens could showcase Torrey Smith more. Smith is a proven deep threat, but the Ravens could now use a possession receiver to complement him. ... So, what about the free agent class? One wide receiver that could fit the Ravens' scheme and that the team holds some interest in is St. Louis Rams free agent Danny Amendola, according to two sources. Whether Amendola is in the Ravens' price range is highly debatable. Word is he wants a contract similar to the five-year, $30.775 million contract recently signed by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline.

It's tough to repeat, isn't it? Once everyone on the team has a ring, they can all go for the money. And, Flacco's swelled head doesn't fit very well under the cap.

It's a weak argument against Flacco this year, because they've made his cap number only $6.8 million. There are at least 3 other guys on the team with bigger numbers for the upcoming year - Suggs, Ngata, Webb. Why don't you hate on those guys? Anyway, making the argument against Flacco's contract might be easier to do in a future cap year.
Amendola is too injury-plagued to bring in, especially at the numbers he is seeking.

Danny Amendola is no Anquan Boldin. Letting Boldin go was a total whiff on the Ravens part.

That's true, but if you're going to build a dynasty, you've got to look beyond the upcomng season.

And Sam Bradford is no Joe Flacco, for what it's worth. We don't know how good Amendola might be, really.
Still, when you let a guy like Boldin go, how are you planning to replace him? Bad move.

Please spare me with Flacco's contract. Brady's first big pay day was one of the highest back then. Flacco's contract is more like a 3 year. Come third year, they will restructure the same the Pats did with Brady.

Bad move? It's early. Look, similar happened a couple of years back when the Ravens let go of Mason, Heap and Gregg but the sky didn't fall. We made the play-offs consecutive years after then got a ring. Ozzie knows what he is doing.

Where Boldin killed EVERYONE in the playoffs (Denver, NE and the Niners) was establishing position and just out-muscling and out jumping the DB for the ball. Flacco knew nobody was coming down with the ball except Boldin. I love Amendola, but I don't know if you can count on him that way. Plus he gets hurt.

Which is why the Ravens refuse to overpay, which is why they are letting some of their free agents go. But, you make an exception when it comes to a franchise quarterback (apparently).

Maybe Flacco should've deferred some of his big money Anquan's way. He's gonna miss him bigtime next year. His type of play will be very difficult to replace.

A team starts with its QB. Period. The Ravens did the smart thing. Then you go from there. Unless the Kyle Boller years appeal to some. He was cap friendly.

The ONLY way he can replace Boldin is if he gets his old locker! BTW...this doesn't seem likely to happen. He is not worth that much money. BAL would be better off with the young horses they have at WR already

Boldin's hands and skill set will be hard to replace. Bad move for the Ravens, excellent move for the Niners
