Crosby in Mario, Gretzky territory

08:22 AM ET 03.13 | Just how good has Sidney Crosby been this season? Sid is on pace for 83 points this season, or 141.9 points in an 82-game season, which would be the highest in the NHL since Mario (161) and Jagr (149) had their incredible campaign in 1995-96. ... Now, this output can lead to delusions of grandeur. Like the idea that Crosby could accomplish something Mario-esque in 2013: Putting up 100 points in 48 games. ... That's asking a wee much of Sidney Crosby, as a 2.5 points-per-game average would be on the Mount Rushmore of offensive performances. One hundred points is probably out of reach. He'll just have to settle for the Hart, the Art Ross and whatever hardware he leads the Penguins to in the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

100 is a bit much. But i'd be impressed with anything around 80, and they still have some pretty easy games to play. Including the one on Thursday.

Especially in this day and age...tough for Boston to win a game when they only get 16 shots on net during the game and you float a pass rink wide in your own end during the third period.

Wasn't that the reaction from the Khudobin high stick...didn't like the embellishment so he did a little of his own for the benefit of the refs.

That was it. He couldn't see that Khudobin really did get his stick up into the dude's neck and wasn't happy with the soccer/I've been shot reaction by the Pens player.

he then proceeded to call himself out infront of the media, right?

right?

right?

Forget this 2.5 nonsense... 2 points per game is crazy production. Crosby is amazing.

March 13, 2013  09:47 AM ET

He's great for the game....just hope he can stay healthy and advoid any cheap shots. He's a Superstar of Dany Heatley magnitude.

March 13, 2013  09:49 AM ET

the rink wide back hand pass was pretty sweet.

Nice come back last night

( groans at attempted tongue in cheek humour. )

Good news and bad news..good news is Boston shut down Crosby..bad news is Boston played with the same intensity of an exhibition game.

They can't right now. Clod has them down on their yoga mats doing embellishment exercises.

I think they ran out of gas in the third. Even though they never had much offense last night, they at least effectively squelched any Pens push earlier

Sid already has those trophies. The trophy Sid wants is the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Boston never had any gas...they finally woke up from their slumber when there was 5 minutes left in the game...3 or 4 times already this has happened..going into the 3rd with the lead..Boston in the past would close the Iron Curtain down and cruise to a W...Boston these days are merely surviving games, not dominating games like they are capable of. The good news is they have 11 games left before the trade deadline to right the ship........really HOPING they get there.

March 13, 2013  10:37 AM ET

AS for Crosby and their offense..it could have easily been a 7-2 score..lots of missed prime scoring opportunities.

Are the Pens peaking too early?

It happens every year with a handful of teams. A team looks unstoppable for an extended stretch during the season and becomes a "clear favorite" for the Cup. Then their mojo fizzles by season's end and that team gets knocked out of the playoffs early to a team that clawed its way in.
