Is Jimmie Johnson bad for NASCAR?

Absolutely not a J.J. fan but you don't win all those titles without skill. I don't like him or Chad but they have the magic formula and bring their A Game every week. I do like him when he is scraping the wall or spinning down the back stretch.

didn't read the article, but winning 5 championships in a row probably isn't that good for any sport.. is he bad for NASCAR though? no

Like him or not , you have to give the credit for being good ,but to say he is the next Richard Petty is like comparing Apples to Oranges, they are 2 different drivers, different styles, different era and so on .......but in the end he does rank right up there with the greatest drivers of all time.

Man its cold here in Bristol this morning, and calling for some snow tonight .....that will make the track slick for practice tomorrow.

Weren't "they" saying pretty much the same thing about Jeff Gordon in the '90s? And they'll no doubt be saying the same thing about the next driver that comes along and dominates for a period of time. It's just the nature of the beast.

If he drove for another team it would't be as bad. I think everyones tired of Hendrick being the ream with the dominate driver. Another knock against him is it's so hard to like Chad Knaus.

then you have brad k who speaks his mind all the time, and NASCAR calls him for a meeting with the frances.. it's really a no win situation

The crew chief that has been caught cheating more times than Lance Armstrong - yet remains part of NASCAR's golden-boy-team. Remember last season when JJ & Chad were fined and docked points - then the "arbitrator" completely nullified EVERY BIT of the penalty as NASCAR looked the other way? The arbitrator that was, by the way, an old crony of Rick Hendrick's? Everybody will always love to hate JJ/Chad - not only because of their success - but also because of the perception of being allowed to cheat. If they've been caught that many times, an intelligent person has to ask how many times have they *not* been caught?

Jimmie Johnson, and the 48 team are the New York Yankies of NASCAR. People whine, complain, and boo (I fully admit I am one of those people) when he wins, and cheer when he wrecks. While he had a dominate run I think the other drivers are catching up technologically, and are starting to race him differently, so that will help spread the wins and good runs out amongst different drivers.

Also the media hype doesn't help either. When JJ is practically declared champ by them at Daytona in February every year the "story" becomes incredible stale by week 3. I feeling is that no one in the media, "reporters", real reporters, and commentators should air their favorites on the air. Yet For the first third of the season they blatantly have a commentator cheering on specific drivers, and manufacturers, and not being an unbias voice. Call me a conspiracy nut, but I also have a feeling NASCAR also has their favorite list that they force TV to report on no matter where they are running, and that NASCAR controls the media and what they report to an extent.

In the end, old dogs like Gordon have been robbed of several titles due to the reset at the end.

IF not for the Chase, Jimmy would be 2 time, not 5 time and Gordon would be 6 time.

Big difference in history books.

Uh.... do you have the data to back that up? Because I read an article last year that said that if not for the reset and new points format, Stewart would have been champ 2 or 3 (I don't recall which) of JJs years...

The 48 team just does it better than other teams.. whether they're 'cheating' or not.. they haven't got caught and everyone knows Nascar looks at the 48 team more closely than other teams.. just because of their success.. so until other teams catch up to them.. they're still the team to beat

How anyone can say Jimmie has no personality, needs a personality check themselves. He has more personality and talent than any of the drivers on the NASCAR circuit at the moment. If anyone who hated Jimmie so much got to know him for who he really is, they would know he is a big practical Joker, playing jokes like Wee Chad, fooling around on the Golf cart, etc. He has concerts for his fans a few nights before, nr the track they racing. He was one of the 1st if not the 1st to give freebies away on his twitter page. And no Jimmie is not bad for NASCAR, he keeps the other drivers on their toes trying to keep up with him. He is giving, up and coming drivers something to aim for.n He is the driver that every driver want's to beat, so how can that be bad for a sport, it's all about competition.

Every few years Nascaer needs a new top dog. Hopefully there will be a new one soon. Kes looks like he could be the one.

I love the fact the "haters" drivers can't keep up with the BEST that NASCAR has today!! we love JJ and always will be behind him!!
