08:02 AM ET 03.14 | Bengals rookie Vontaze Burfict has come a long way since his days as Arizona State. [Burfict] earned an NFL-high $299,465 in the NFL's performance-based pay program, a source with knowledge of the payout distribution confirmed to "Shutdown Corner" on Wednesday. Off-field issues at Arizona State dropped Burfict out of the 2012 NFL Draft and the Bengals were able to sign him to a three-year undrafted rookie contract that included a signing bonus of $1,000 for a first-year cap number of $390,333. Burfict had a team-high 127 tackles while playing in 82.96 percent of the team's defensive snaps, which set him to do very well in a poorly-named program that rewards players with high playing-time percentages and low cap numbers.

I can say he was the real deal last year, for an undrafted walk-on.....he was a diamond in the rough.

The kind of guy you want around for a long time...

So - does Mike Brown have the sense to try and do so?

Going by history, this is when Mike Brown digs in and reminds everyone that the player signed a contract and does nothing. We'll see how much ill will there is when Burfict's rookie contract runs out.

Well Otis that is yet to be seen....but I think if he continues to improve this coming year and has another year like last year , the Bengals will re-do his contract after next year.

But then again we are talking about Mike Brown, even tho he has been showing signs of change - he is still Mike Brown.

Well that "Player" he was refering to isn't playing no-more and when he left Cincy his career was basically over.

He made a lot of people eat their words...I hope he becomes one of the best in the league and keeps his head on straight. People CAN change if given a chance

That's the part you worry about... just like I worry about Jerry Jones still being Jerry Jones.
