Potential snag in Revis-to-Bucs

08:02 AM ET 03.14 | The likelihood that Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis will soon land in a new locale has picked up steam. Tampa Bay Buccaneers management, all the way up to the Glazer family that owns the team, is fully on board with trading for Revis, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday. That includes paying Revis what is considered an acceptable salary. The holdup, for now, is what the Jets are willing to accept in a trade. The Buccaneers don't want to relinquish their first-round pick in next month's NFL draft. Tampa Bay holds the No. 13 overall pick. ... The same Bucs source indicated Tampa Bay might be more willing to surrender its 2014 first-rounder, gambling that next year's selection won't be as high if the team improves.

Revis may be worth little more than a mismatched pair of used shoelaces. But, look for him to be a pre-season distraction in any case.

I think Tampa Bay is bluffing. Why give up any draft choices to the Jets when next year you can bid for him in free agency and keep both your 1st round choices. It would not be fair to Dashon Goldson to hire Revis this year, you would never know if you overpaid Goldson or not?
At least wait till June and then maybe the Jets will be willing to take a second or third round pick for Revis. The Jets aren't going any place with or without Revis. So what amount of money are the Buccs willing to pay for Revis 5 years $75million ? That would make for a very expensive secondary.

That last sentence is as true as the sun rising in the East....Look at it this way, though...He'll generate far less press and be less in our faces in Tampa Bay than NY.

Well, that's not good. I have hit a few snags in my time too: they tend to hit back.

I don't believe Revis will be traded at all this year. Why would any team risk draft picks for a guy who might not be able to play again? Revis is going to have to play well as a Jet next year before he can be dealt.

The coach in Tampa Bay is smart enough to know you build a power house team with defense first. If a Revis is available, is a missing piece, and the deep pocket owners have the bucks, why not. Can't hurt that's for sure.

In all likely hood he won't be the same after an ACL, do you still trade picks and give him the 14Mil he wants? I think they'll wait and see a few games first. It's clear the Jets are in free fall and Woody probably has to trade him but I don't see any takers until he proves his knee is OK.

"Potential snag in Revis-to-Bucs"
Could the snag be that Revis is nothing but a worthless ******?

2013 is the last year of his current deal. If Revis isn't dealt now, I wouldn't be surprised if the J-E-T-S just say adios and let him go on his way. If he's anywhere near 100%, he will likely want more $$$$$ than NY will be willing to pay at that point.

A - To the first idiot - "he isn't worth more than used shoe-laces" The best player at a position that is the hardest to find? You are an idiot. If Darrell Revis went to the Pats, he is instantly the best CB they have ever had. Ever...
B - Trading him in June RAISES the price, not lowers it, tool bag. If you want picks in THIS draft, you have to take less. If you take picks in the 2014, you get more. After the combine, teams get married to their picks. During the summer, the next draft is a lifetime away.
C - Revis is a diva who wants to get bigger money than Mario Williams got from Buffalo. But he is the best CB of this generation. I wouldn't pay any single player on defense one eighth of my cap. So the jets should shop him. But hold out for a 1st round pick this season and a conditional one next season.

"In all liklihood, he wont be the same after the ACL." Just like Adrian Peterson.
Does ANYONE pay attention???
Medical science has come a long way. Look at Tommy John surgery. it used to be a death sentence for a pitcher. Now it happens all the time, and guys come back stronger (Strasburg). The ACL surgery is becoming the same thing. Guys return strong. Peterson came off of an ACL and MCL tear, on the position that is hardest on the knee, and he crushed 2000 yds. So there is no reason to worry about Revis's knee. He will be fine.
Teams are shying away from Revis because of the contract demands. If he was asking for 10 million per, 20 teams would be begging to trade for him, including the Giants and Pats.

Without knowing how well that knee is doing, that might be more of a risk than a GM would be willing to take at this point.

@captaincruzan, with all of the advances in ACL repairs, I don't think that is as big a concern anymore. How many players in recent history have comeback from ACL surgery and had career years? Peterson, Brady, Welker, just to name a few. At this stage in is rehab they will be able to determine if all of the scar tissue is gone and if he has full range of motion. That is the determining factor. The strength can be recaptured, it is the range of motion that is the concern. Now rather it will hold up that is a different question, but again the repairs are a lot more stable now days than 10 years ago. Most of the time if a player gets hurt again it is the other knee which would make sense because it probably has the same structural weaknesses as the previously injured knee. They will do their homework on that front, so I would be too concerned about that.

ACL tears are not what they used to be. Many players have come back after the surgery to be as good as they once were or better. Revis' work ethic alone will make him as good as ever. The 13th pick in the draft is a bargain for a talent like Revis. Frankly, the Jets should keep him. You win by keeping great players, not getting rid of them.

im not sure how revis gets his reputation as a great cb. i believe that in the 2011 season he had the second WORST completion against rating. the only cb who ranked worse was chris gamble formerly of the panthers.
revis just had on phenomenal season a few years ago. it was one great season and he has never come close to duplicating that season since. hes an above average cb (maybe), but certainly not worth all the hassle any salary cap space he is demanding.

Actually VinnyMac - Revis led the league in 2011.
https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/01/12/cornerbacks-a-glance-at-t he-2011-numbers/
THAT is how he got the reputation as the best CB - HE EARNED IT.
In 2009 he shut down the world, facing Andre, Colston, Moss twice, Steve Smith, Wayne, Chad Ocho... and also in 2009, he allowed 1 TD all season - to Mike Sims-Walker of all people (and Steve Smith caught a close one out of bounds, but was ruled incomplete).
Then in 2011, he led the league in CB completion percentage against.
If you watch him week in and week out, you see how good he is. And for a true cover corner, he is very aggressive against the run and a solid tackler. One of the best tackling CBs I have ever seen. Guys like Deion were GREAT cover corners, but never tackled anyone and never played the run. Revis does that and does it well.
The ONE problem with Revis is simple - he is demanding $15 million per year in a year that the salary cap actually receded (someone needs to explain that)
If Revis would take a more reasonable 11 mill per, the Jets would resign him for life.
