08:13 AM ET 03.14 | Aaron Hicks may just land himself an Opening Day start. [Hicks] is about to make the big jump from Double-A to win the Twins center field job. While there is no announcement yet, the handwriting appears to be on the wall. Hicks has been a standout in the Grapefruit League, hitting .370 with four home runs and 13 RBIs, and word is he's on the verge of cracking the Twins' Opening Day lineup. Hicks is on the verge of beating out Darin Mastroianni, who will make the team but appears ticketed for a backup role at all three outfield positions. ... Much of the focus at Twins camp has been on the center field competition after the team traded two starting calibre center fielders this winter, Denard Span and Ben Revere.

A lot of teams have their prospects basically skip AAA and use that team to keeps vets warm for the majors in case of injury.

Exactly. AAA hasn't been the next step since the 80's. All legit prospects skip AAA these days and go right to the Bigs from AA.

At this stage of the Twinkles organization you could call the team playing in the Twin Cities Advance Triple A.

It depends on the organization. The Rays don't skip AAA.

Nor do the Red Sox.

World Series here we come!!!!! Hicks is good but he's not going to pull the Twins out of the American League cellar unless he can pitch, coach and play just about every other position at the same time. Twins are in the crapper for another 2 or 3 years before they do anything again.
