12:48 PM ET 03.14 | The Kansas City Chiefs have released quarterback Matt Cassel, according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star. Cassel was the starting quarterback for four seasons in Kansas City after being acquired in 2009 for a second-round draft pick. Cassel made the Pro Bowl in 2010 after throwing 27 touchdowns against seven interceptions, but never replicated that success in his other seasons in Kansas City. Last year, Cassel began as the starter but was unseated by Brady Quinn after having a brutal campaign. Cassel tossed 12 interceptions and fumbled six times in only nine games. The low point of the season came against the Baltimore Ravens in Arrowhead Stadium, when a hit from nose tackle Haloti Ngata resulted in a concussion. With Cassel on the ground after the hit, a smattering of embarrassing applause rang out from the crowd.

Can he still hit???

He too would be considered an upgrade over every QB that the JETS currently have!

Not since little league. At USC he only had one at bat and he whiffed. I wonder how many other sports he didn't start in.

I remember a game when the Pats played Miami, and were up like 49-3 at halftime. They brought in Cassel, and he stunk so badly that Brady had to come back out to finish the game.

I have no idea what happened the year Brady hurt his knee and Cassel became the starter. The went 11-5. If Cassel is as bad as he seems, how good were the rest of the Pats that year?

Man that is a question I'd pay to know the answer to. Having been a witness to him in person doing what he does (awfully) I can attest that he has no business being in the NFL whatsoever. The guy couldn't beat anyone out in college for crying out loud. Pathetic. The Pats just might have the best system in place to be honest. Plug and play in many spots.

2009 had to be an anomaly.

Apparently, the Vikes couldn't wait to give him that chance.
