04:38 PM ET 03.14 | Kobe Bryant is out "indefinitely" after severely spraining his ankle on a controversial play in the final moments of the Lakers 96-92 loss to the Hawks on Wednesday. After Kobe missed a fade-away shot in the final seconds that would have tied the game, he landed awkwardly on the foot of Dahntay Jones, a play he called "dirty and dangerous" and said "doesn't belong in the game." Jones was crowding Kobe as he defended him, ending up under Kobe as the jumper was released, which didn't leave a lot of room for Kobe to come down. Although Jones denied any intent to injure him, the two players have a history of on-court incidents, most notably in the 2009 Western Conference Finals, when Jones, then a member of the Nuggets, received a flagrant foul for tripping the Lakers star.

Wasn't dirty, sucks for the Lakers though.

It looked like a good clean defensive play to me!!! The only thing that concerns me, is why Jones is "High fiving" his teammates, while Kobe is on the ground in pain???

I'm hoping it had more to do with the shot missing than Kobe being down. Nuggets probably thought "Vino" was pulling the old Euro flop and didn't think him to be actually hurt.

Dirty play. Getting under players is a dangerous move, I tore my ACL that way. Not the first major injury this season because of a dirty defensive move.

When the shooter (Bryant in this case) goes up the defender (Jones) slides his foot forward so the shooter will awkwardly come down on it, resulting in an injured ankle for the shooter. Bruce Bowen mastered that move!
