04:51 PM ET 03.14 | The NHL Board of Governors approved the realignment plan proposed by the league on Thursday afternoon. This comes a week after the NHL Players??? Association approved the same plan, meaning that the proposal has officially passed. Under this new structure, the NHL will have two conferences composed of two divisions. The Conferences will remain as Eastern and Western, with two divisions in each. The Eastern Conference will 16 teams (eight in each division), while the Western Conference will have 14 teams (seven in each division). In addition, the league???s playoff format will change. Four wild card teams will be introduced. The top-three teams in each division will make the playoffs, plus the top-two non-playoff teams earning wild card spots.

It sucks for both Florida teams as they'll have to hopscotch over "Division C" so they can play with their "Division D" which is in the North East.

Maybe they're anticipating one or both of them moving into hockey country like Quebec and Hartford soon.

I wonder why they didn't leave both Florida teams in "Division C" and moved Columbus and .... and .... and .... (cough, cough) the Islanders into "Division D."

Not the Lightning. They draw over 19000 per game. That's more than 23 other teams.

"The top-three teams in each division will make the playoffs, plus the top-two..."

Are they letting Germans be interns now? It's "top three" and "top two," unless you're saying something like, "The Flyers are no longer a top-ten team."

Interesting season next year no doubt.

Did I just read an English lesson? I think I did. It was good. So, are these posts being marked now? I could be in trouble.

Next topic: Realignment, show of hands for a team in Seattle one day?

Point being it's not a huge Carl Hiaasen/James W. Hall reading native Florida following.....

So it's about all she wrote. Or he to be more accurate.

Sort of a Minimum High Tide, not even a Mean.

Sorry for a literary side bar...

But a lower capacity % than 13, so essentially middle of the road. Couple that with its location, and the fact that most "away" teams bring 10K of those fans or more...

You know that with 7 in each west division they will add two more teams.

I'm sure you're right. BTW, The Jets just beat the Rangers. Can't wait for the next Torts thread.

Watched the Hawks-BJ game. Columbus goalie is good. Never understand the Flyers.
