08:44 AM ET 03.15 | NASCAR fans finally have a driver to stand behind for those who were looking a driver that would stand up to NASCAR. Denny Hamlin saw an increase of support from NASCAR fans across the fan base after his comments at Phoenix. Denny Hamlin, as many know, had been fined by NASCAR after the SUBWAY Fresh Fit 500 in Phoenix for criticizing the new Generation-6 cars. No profanity or really insulting comments of any kind were made, just a simple and clean assessment from Hamlin was made. Yet, NASCAR slapped a hefty $25,000 fine on Hamlin. Hamlin responded by saying he refused to pay the fine NASCAR handed him. Eventually, he announced his intentions to appeal the fine. Now, Hamlin has changed his plans and has no intentions of following through with his appeal.

I am disappointed too. I think he should have made a fuss just to further expose the NASCAR honchos for the thin skinned fools that they are.

I was thinkin he was wimpin out too.Buty the wife made a good counterpoint. She said he made a point and took it as far as he could without riskin Gibbs or himself via suspension. I see some logic in that but Denny kept sayin he did not care if he got suspended, so he said too much to back down for any reason. His gettin suspended would have really brought a battle that might have done some good for drivers in general. Now we will never know and nothin will change now.
And he looks like a dufus now.

I was a steady follower of Nascar for the last 25 years, but this action along with their obsession with keeping everything quiet, has caused me to rethink the what I do on Sunday afternoons. The racing has become less interesting and less competitive. Nascar picks favorites and gives them unfair advantages, and even turns a blind eye to Jimmy Johnson team as they cheat their way to the top, and we know this just by listening to the radio chatter near the end of the races. I have better things to do then to watch the WWE version of car racing.

Smokescreen/spin. You can spin it however...point is he wussed out. No surprise there..no driver is going to go full speed ahead against the 'boss' and risk future cars failing inspections, etc. Not that NASCAR would do THAT, right? ;)

Not to mention how much $$ these guys make. $25K? Big deal. Bet he drops that in less than a month of traveling their motorcoaches to different tracks. Probably a friggin tax writeoff too for them........
