Dennis Pitta draws interest as restricted free agent

12:25 PM ET 03.15 | As a restricted free agent, Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta was tendered at a cost of $2.023 million prior to the start of free agency. With Pitta getting the second-round tender, the former fourth-round draft pick has been the subject of preliminary inquiries from NFL teams that are interested in him, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation. The Ravens are in a tight salary-cap situation, especially since wide receiver Anquan Boldin's $6 million base salary and $7.531 million salary-cap figure remains on the books until he takes and passes a physical to complete his trade to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick. Because Pitta wasn't assigned a first-round tender of $2.879 million, the Ravens are slightly vulnerable should another team submit an offer sheet. They own the right of first refusal to match any offer sheet. If they didn't opt to match, and no one has submitted an offer at this time, they would be compensated with a second-round draft pick.

Like many Ravens (Flacco, Ellerbe, Kruger), he had a break-out year. But even though he's far from Gronk or anything, he's a solid TE.

Yup. He made a lot of catches down the stretch for Bawlimer.

Joe Flacco may discover what happens when his own big salary means he'll be throwing to an all-thumbs cast of receivers.

Flacco got his ring and his money and nwo he's going to get his **** kicked for a couple of years. Not sure winning wouldn't have been more fun.

Didn't some of them restructure so they were more cap friendly ?

I was addressing getting his butt kicked for the next couple of years, but now that you mentioned restructuring, the Broncos lost Elvis, Green Bay lost Greg Jennings, New England lost Welker but we will blame Flacco for losing his players while the other guys were cap friendly, RIGHT!

Most casual readers just keep parroting headlines and have no idea what Flacco's cap numbers are. For example, his cap hit is $6.8 million for 2013. BTW, golden boy Brady???s 2013 cap number is $13.8 million. That's right - Brady's is higher than Flacco's in 2013. Don't see that in the headlines do you.
Then in 2014 Flacco???s and Brady???s cap numbers will be the same at $14.8 million. After that, Flacco's numbers are so ridiculous that the prevailing theory is that the Ravens will be forced to re-structure.
