03:39 PM ET 03.15 | The Montreal Canadiens have extended the contract of forward David Desharnais, according to an announcement by the team on Friday morning. The deal is a four-year, $14 million and will go into effect next season. Desharnais was playing in the final year of a two-year, $1.7 million contract and would have been a restricted-free agent at the conclusion of the 2013 season. His new deal will carry an annual average value of $3.5 million against the salary cap. In 27 games this season, the 26-year-old has compiled eight goals and eight assists for a total of 16 points.

Smart move by Bergevin to sign him at that price. Desharnais shows up every night and doesn't let bigger guys scare him.

yep.

and as i pointed out earlier, the fact that the habs negotiated in-season and rewarded a player that is working his butt off is a very good sign.

I love the franchise's approach to everything ever since Molson took over. I'm really thrilled with Bergevin and with Therrien (and lord knows that I was not high on Therrien)...

It's a great price, that's just over $50,000.00 per inch.

His agent was holding out for Brad Marchand's nose full of nickels but Bergevin said they couldn't afford that.
