Bears may trade down for extra picks

09:52 AM ET 03.16 | For now, Bears general manager Phil Emery has only five picks because he sent a third-rounder to the Miami Dolphins in the Brandon Marshall trade and a seventh-rounder to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for defensive tackle Brian Price, who was cut last September. The question is, what is the 20th pick worth? Much of that has to do with a weak quarterback class, which could play into the Bears' favor. If USC's Matt Barkley, for instance, were available at No. 20, another club could decide to move up to select him. What could the Bears get for the pick? Here are a couple of examples: If the Minnesota Vikings wanted to move up and take Barkley, they likely would have to give up their first-round pick (No. 23) and a third-rounder or a combination of a fourth- and fifth-rounder. If the quarterback-starved Jacksonville Jaguars wanted to move up from the first pick of the second round (No. 33), they'd have to part with at least the second pick in the third round (No. 64). Those values aren't etched in stone, but that's generally a good barometer.

That implies there's no quality in the later rounds.
If the Bears can get an extra pick in this draft, they should use it wisely. Time to see what Phil Emery is really made of.

That's the key - using it wisely.
The Cowboys had 12 picks in the 2008 draft. None are left on the team.

They might serve themselves better to move up and get a OL worth diddly bop. Ya trade down, ya get down, more often than not. Great example, in the 2010 NFL draft there were 14 first round picks who are now all pr. 3 second round picks all pro. 2 from that 3rd round and 2 from that 4th round. One fifth rounder and one sixth rounder and no one after that.
Your chances of finding an above average player go way down the more you move down.

The Vikings are not going to move up to take Barkley. And BTW, nice 2008 draft Jerry!

Ya and if the sun don't rise tomorrow were all pretty much toast. I mean this is ridiculous. Like this never happens? I almost expect the Packers to look for more draft picks and maybe give up a number two for some 4's and 5's or two three's but that is rare to get that.
Ted Thompson is the master of giving up picks that may costs money and getting cheaper late rounders who basically suck but hey they're cheap.

The Vikes will again have a masterful draft. They are just in that position the 9er's were last year, a couple of wholes to fill then they've got a complete team, competitive at all levels. I see the Vikes going for two of the top three receivers in the draft, speed burner guys.
People that have Ponder on the outs are dead wrong. He is staying, he is there future and he is not going anywhere soon.
