Kentucky to sweat out Selection Sunday

10:13 AM ET 03.16 | So that was ugly. And now they wait. Kentucky "laid an egg," as coach John Calipari put it after a stunning 64-48 loss to Vanderbilt (which was 15-16 and ranked 118th in the RPI before tonight) in the SEC quarterfinals here in Nashville, where an absurd number of Cats fans (it was Rupp South) couldn't help. But did it demolish UK's NCAA Tournament hopes? We won't know until the selection show on Sunday. "The good news is everyone seems to be losing," Calipari said, "and I just hope we're the best of the bad right now. That's what I'm hoping." He's right about everybody losing (except Maryland shocking Duke and Ole Miss just now coming back to beat Missouri, which hurts the Cats). By my count, seven legitimate bubble teams lost Friday: UK, Tennessee, Virginia, Iowa State, Iowa, Temple and La Salle. And bubblers Boise State, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Colorado and Arizona State lost the day before. That all helps, but as Calipari said: "We had an opportunity. It was in our hands to take it out of everybody's hands, and we didn't take care of business."

Kentucky was on the receiving end of a beat down. However they have name recognition and will likely be selected to participate in the tournament over more deserving teams. That's the way the NCAA rolls.

I totally agree!!!! The NCAA won't keep Kentucky out of the big dance, with a 21-11 record!!!!

I don't see KY making the NCAAs. Sure, they got a win against Florida in the last game of the season, but that's not enough to salvage an 11-loss season.

Don't worry. They will soon have the opportunity to play more games in Rupp Arena in the NIT.
