12:41 PM ET 03.16 | ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the Patriots and cornerback Aqib Talib have agreed on a one-year contract. Talib was suspended for four games during the 2012 season after testing positive for Adderall during training camp. He played four games with the Buccaneers in 2012 before being traded to New England in November. He played in the Patriots' final six games of the regular season and both of their playoff games. He had 10 tackles in the Patriots' 42-28 win over Houston, and was playing well before pulling a hamstring in the first half in the AFC Championship game against Baltimore. The Patriots secondary fell apart after that, as the Ravens overpowered New England down the stretch en route to the win and an eventual Super Bowl championship.

All the agent needed to show was a clip of that Baltimore game before and after Talib was injured. They can survive without Welker. They need defensive help badly or it doesn't matter how many yards Brady throws for.

This is a good deal for both parties. The Pats definitely need him and 5mil/1 yr is not too pricey. On the other hand he gets to attempt to stay healthy and productive for one more (at least) in NE & keep his nose out of trouble. If he can do that he should get a nice 3-5 deal next off-season.

Was hoping for this. I think most expected welker to go this offseason. With Amendola and the Ends, I think the offense will be fine. Wood head leaving was inevitable with the two solid backs that are in place as well.

Need to continue to solidify the defense.
