01:13 PM ET 03.16 | Former NFL running back Brian Westbrook is 33 years old and already dealing with the pain of memory loss, according to The Press of Atlantic City. Westbrook has trouble with short-term memory, things such as retaining information that was just told to him, or remembering someone's name. The ex-Philadelphia Eagle and San Francisco 49ers great looks back on his career and knows he could have done some things differently, most of all resting more after sustaining a concussion. Per the article: "I thought I took enough time off to rest and recuperate. I thought I was healed completely," Westbrook said, talking about coming back too quickly from a head injury that knocked him out cold. "But I got hit, I got my bell rung. I was out for another few weeks with another concussion."

Maybe he's just not paying attention. That's why I don't remember some peoples names. Well....That and I don't find them interesting. Introduce him to Natasha Barnard, If he can't remember her name rush him to the hospital.

Sadly if you prang your noggin often enough, there's no coming back. My dad died of a brain injury. I've seen the xRays, when a part of the brain is too injured, it goes dark and doesn't come back.

Try being married and having kids bouncing around the house all day, you get the same symptoms over time.

Sad news. Never liked the Eagles, but I always enjoyed watching Westbrook's playing. Hoping something can be done for him.

Sadly - I think most of us saw this coming. Too damn many concussions and too damn stubborn to stop playing.
He - unfortunately - has all the makings of the new poster child for the concussion controversy in the NFL. I honestly hope he can promote something good coming from this mess. I have a feeling.. He won't.

The mentality in the past when a player was injured was to give them some smelling salts and send them back in the game. The player went back in the game because if he didn't, he risked losing his starting job. We're going to see more and more of these players who played through concussions. It's sad really because all the money in the world won't make one's brain regenerate. I hope the best for Brian Westbrook.

how incredibly hurtful and stupid some of those comments were. i am i Giants fan and i always respected how tough Brian Westbrook was. my wife has had a brain injury and i see how she suffers through the simple things. As for the person who says isnt that normal for all husbands, maybe you should find a better one. God speed and wish you well Brian
