Will Penguins pull trigger on big deal?

10:12 AM ET 03.17 | General manager Ray Shero claims the Pens will make a deal only if the right offer comes along, but that hasn't stopped the speculation that Calgary's Jarome Iginla, even at this point in his career, would be a nice fit in Pittsburgh -- especially if he landed on Sidney Crosby's wing. Keep in mind that Shero has never been shy to pull the trigger on significant deals before. Among the players the Penguins GM has swapped for over the years -- Marian Hossa and James Neal.

I see the Pens making a move for a decent, but not upper tier d-man.

I still say their biggest "problem" is MAF.....unless they're playing the Rags.

Iginla's deserves to be out of Calgary and on to a team that has a chance. He'll rock!

The Habs would too, but I think the price tag would be way too high, and both teams are playing well right now.

Me either, they are the top scoring team in the NHL. If they are going to make a move, you'd think they'd want to improve their defense.

Neither Boston or MTL have ever shown the willingness to overpay the way that it will be expected to lure Iggy out of Calgary.
This deal has San Jose or Philly written all over it...and since the flyers suck, I'm going to predict san jose.

Total ageement! Iggy deserves a better fate than being stuck on a dull team in a tiny NHL market that will miss the playoffs again. I hope he goes to a contender in a big market.

They mention the Hossa and Neal trades, both times Shero gave up very little and got a whole lot. Pens got Hossa and Dupuis for Armstrong and Eric Christianson. Both guys were role players. For Neal and Niskanen they gave up Gologoski. Gogo and Letang were competing to be the QB on the power play. Letang took the step up and Gogo really didn't do anything.

what did boston pay to get him? I dont't remember and don't want to check, but I don't recall it being anything close to what it will take to land Iggy.

One of their best prospects at the time (Joe Colborne) and a first round pick.
