Pacers guard Hill calls out fans for lack of support

01:03 PM ET 03.17 | Indiana has worked their way to the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, but guard George Hill doesn't think the Pacers' success has much to do with their home crowd.

Hill spoke extensively with the Indianapolis Star about his frustration with the team's fanbase: "It sucks. It was 70 (Lakers fans), 30 (Pacers fans) out there," Hill told Mike Wells of the Star. "These are the same people that want autographs after the game. We're out there in the community. We're doing our job, doing what we're supposed to do on and off the court. Something has to change. I tip my hat to this team. We???ve been trouble free. Been out in the community shaking hands, we're winning. It shouldn't feel like an away game, especially with an important like this. Tonight, that's what it felt like."

Hill understands the Indianapolis community pretty well, being a native, so he should know that the Pacers have often ranked near the bottom of the league in attendance. They currently find themselves in 26th place out of 30, with 14,983 fans per game. Despite that, they're 26-8.

Having a 7 foot Center, who makes max money, yet plays cotton soft in the paint, is about as useful as having a world class surgeon who faints at the sight of blood.

Thank heavens you don't play for the Hawks. We have that feeling every single night!!!!

How many days in a row they gonna run this?

Easy to call out the fans for not showing up when you make millions a year. If he wants more fans there to support them, buy some tickets and give them away. Obviously you aren't earning that money if you aren't putting butts in the seats.

I live in Indy and when Football season ends up to when Race Season starts there is nothing going on here. Pacers need contraction.

I'mm completely with Hill on this one. It's sad that the fans in Indy were cheering the Lakers. The Pacers are a really good team of overachievers and their hard work goes mostly unappreciated by sports fans in Indianapolis. I'd be pissed too, if I were a Pacer.

Hibbert's game is somewhat unorthodox for a center but he's usually an effective player. I can think of quite a few worse options, at any rate.

It's not Hill's fault that people don't come, and the idea that he should be paying for fans' tickets is ridiculous.

Think what you will about Hill's contract but the fans in Indy are few and he has a right to be upset about it. Millionaire or otherwise, I don't get why people get upset at Hill for voicing his opinion, especially when it's so easy to see his point of view.

I agree about football but definitely not for basketball. The NBA is much better seen live.

Thank you, people who throw out the fact that he makes millions are just short-sighted to me. He has a talent that few people in the world have, so he gets paid accordingly. He simply stated his opinion, I hope the Pacers leave Indiana and come to Kansas City, We have a nice new Sprint Center built (Big 12 champ tourney) that would be the perfect home for a NBA team.
