08:06 AM ET 03.18 | The carousel started spinning late last week for Elvis Dumervil, who will likely entertain more than his share of options this week. [Everybody] seems to have a wisecrack about the fax fiasco that has so far cost the Broncos a quality pass rusher. ... Everybody but John Elway. "I got nothing for you, dude," Elway said with a grin. ... The Baltimore Ravens are interested in Dumervil, but aren't sure if they have enough money to sign him. There is a connection in Atlanta. ... Dumervil might be a good fit in New England. ... If the Broncos can present Dumervil with a deal that pays, say, $2 million a year more than other bidders, they can retain Dumervil.

"If the Broncos can present Dumervil with a deal that pays, say, $2 million a year more than other bidders, they can retain Dumervil."
And that will be the reason Dumervil is probably lining up for the Pats this season. Even if they play games with signing bonuses versus salary, the roughly $4 million dollar hit in dead contract money that they have to eat because of FaxGate is going to put them in a place where they probably can't compete with a team that really want Elvis.

They need a pass rusher and signing Dumervil hurts a team that might be their most serious rival for the Super Bowl. I don't like it, but that makes sense to me.

Why does this whole Dumervil fax mess make me think of Rex Ryan?

I know most here like piling on to ownership and management, and often with good reason. However you have to ask yourself the question, given Elway wanted Elvis to take a pay cut and after much consideration, Elvis decided he would, who would have believed that they benefited if the deal didn't go through? Could it be the fired agent?

That's what I think. The fact that Dumervil fired his agent is the key part. The Broncos made it clear that his agent had to get fired before they renewed negotiations, and I bet other teams weren't real eager to play with him either.
Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders were the ones to sign Dumervil to a ridiculous contract is part of the reason both of them got fired in Denver. Elway was hired to clean up their mess. He almost pulled off fixing Dumervil's contract so that it was what the Broncos wanted it to be. He didn't pull the plug on the fax machine.

Seems he's too one-dimensional for Belicheck, but we'll see i guess. They need some pass-rushers, thats for sure. or anyone on defense that has an ounce of speed and can tackle..

Pats already have Elvis in Foxboro. Elway did Elvis wrong knowing the faxes take 20 min. and having them go back and forth at 25 past 1 p.m. and quarter of 2 p.m. He has left the building.
