Conflicting reports on Lohse's state of mind

08:13 AM ET 03.18 | At this point, Kyle Lohse remains an arm without a country, of sorts, leaving those around him to speculate as to his state of mind. Two major-league sources told me Sunday that the free-agent right-hander is getting "antsy." "Why wouldn't he be?" one friend of Lohse's said. But after I posted the original version of this column, former major-league pitcher and ESPN Baseball Tonight analyst Mark Mulder tweeted, "I think @Ken_Rosenthal got some bad info from a 'close' friend of Lohse. He is anything but 'antsy' right now. #howwouldIknow." Mulder might know because he and Lohse were teammates with the Cardinals in 2008. But Mulder did not say whether Lohse is "anything but antsy" because he is close to signing with a club, or because he is content to remain on the open market.

Teammates in 2008......at least for the 3 minutes that Mulder was on the mound that year. If they got to know each other well that year, Lohse must have hung around the training room a lot.

KYLE lohse appears to been lost and found, but not a big contract is expected from rangers/nationals/mets/yankees,know why?? he can't pitch better out of the cards organization!!!

Rangers will end up signing Lohse.

wiseup: One reason Loshe is stillon open market is Boras. Boras is selling Loshe as a number 1 or 2 starter. Most teams see him as a number 4 or 5 starter. Number 3 at best.

Wiseup - the issue is the pick. Nobody wants to pay and give up the 1st round pick. Only way giving up the pick makes sense is if you can sign him for more than 1 year. Problem is he is holding out for big dollars. Natural landing spot without the pick is for him to take less money for 1 year and try again. Ultimately I think this guy signs for 2 years at ~$8MM per year with a club option at $8MM for a third year with a $4MM buyout. Boras can say he got a minimum of 20MM guarranteed and the club gets a mid rotation starter for $8MM per year for 3 years if he is effective.

BTW he is not a 4-5. guy was 16-3 last year

Statistically he was the Cardinals best pitcher the last two years. He's been pitching like a solid number two for the Cardinals except for the period when he was dealing with the crushed vein in his forearm.

wiseup: If teams thought they were going to get the Loshe that would go 16-3 for 2 years he would have a job by now. that kind of record would be worth a # 1 pick.

There is only one problem with your logic Joet, for this to happen he would have to resign with the Cards and that is not going to happen.

wiseup:Loshe is still looking for a job. Is Loshe a #1 or 2 pitcher? or is he a mid to back end starter? Here is his record for the teams he has pitched for . you be the judge. Twins 61/2 seasons 72-99, Reds 1yr 9-17, Phillies Month and a half 3-0, Cards 5 years 54-33, his total career 118-109.
