03:51 PM ET 03.18 | The NHL???s general managers are scheduled to hold their only meeting of the 2013 season on Wednesday in Toronto. Usually, the general managers will meet two times per season, but due to the lockout only one meeting will be held this season. The topics to be discussed over the course of the six-hour meeting are expected to include player safety issues and potential rule changes. Main rule changes on the docket will include the potential implementation of hybrid-icing and changes to overtime to limit the shootout. Player safety topics will range from mandatory use of visors to cut-resistant materials.

and supposedly they will discuss Burke's stupid bear-hug rule so that poor lads line Geno won't hurt themselves driving to the net. Because, you know, it's unreasonable that 200+ pound men would get hurt while skating on razorblades while trying to knock each other's heads off

I thought the bear hug rule went the way of Burke. I guess its just so stupid they've got to try it.

apparantly a few more gm's are on board...

because, you know, a bit of their talent got hurt, so apparantly that warrants going back to the b.s. terrible hockey we had through the late 90's...

sure, there was sunbelt expansion and whatnot, but a big part of why hockey struggled to so much was because they hockey of the 90's up until the lockout was terrible.

Here's a prototype to be discussed. The helmet will need some small redesign coz it was made for Pronger.

One thing I'd like to see is you don't get a tie point until overtime ends in a tie. That way the last minute of a regulation tie game won't be so boring.

And .... what's wrong with a game ending in a tie? Why reward failure?

Also true. But if they insist on the point let it be when the game is over, maybe not awarded until after the dreaded shootout.

To be more clear, if there is a winner in overtime it's 2 points to no points, and maybe the game should end in a tie like Roamer says. But if they keep the one point it can go to the loser of a shootout.

I hate that damned shootout. Bad for the game.

but then you'll see a 5 min overtime as tight and conservative as the last minute of a tie game.

It's not the 4-on-4 that makes the overtime work, it's the fact that players are given the green light to take liberties with their defensive responsibilities. I have yet to see a player really be given a rough time for a mistake that would normally have resulted in a benching in regulation.

yes but mouth breathers and Disney families love it...supposedly...even though they don't actually go to games...or watch...or buy merchandise.
