08:06 AM ET 03.19 | West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith has another team interested in his services. Browns CEO Joe Banner reiterated at the NFL owners meetings on Monday that quarterback is still not the team's focus at their first-round pick next month, but that won't stop them from taking a good, long look at West Virginia's Geno Smith. The Browns, who are seeking competition for Brandon Weeden, will conduct a private workout with Smith, a source said Monday. They sent a representative to Smith's pro day last week, and Banner said that they'll study Smith and the other top quarterbacks in depth. ... The Browns reportedly considered former Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on Monday for the 30 seconds between being released by Tennessee and entered into negotiations with the Colts.

I wish the Browns draft him. Competition is good and would even make the AFC N division more entertaining.

The Browns need more than just another QB.

If the Browns are going to stay in their very conservative offense they would be wasting their pick on Smith.

Smith just might be a surprise...kinda like a Russell Wilson surprise.

Makes sense.... Weeden isn't their guy.

I have been down on the guy as a top 10 pick, but all the expertsin material I have read, say I am wrong. OK, I guess the scouts see him as that good. With the rookie scale already set, it is not that big of a deal anymore to draft a guy like him early. Money wise it is not crippling to your team. So go for it.

I think his pro day eased the mind of doubters.

They draft Geno Smith, he doesn't work out and then they fire Michael Lombardi, same old Browns!!!

I'm not really sure if this is more funny or sad. I love dumping on cleveland as much as the next guy (probably even more)...
Given their ineptitude in having picked Weeden, I'm going to have to go with funny, after all, they did it to themselves.
How this franchise has a single fan left is beyond me.

I'd rather waste the pick and take a chance on Smith. But in true Brown's fashion, they wasted 2 picks...
so yes, same old Browns indeed.

As a lifelong Browns fan the answer to your question is loyalty. And while the previous owner Randy Lerner was totally clueless hopefully Jimmy Haslam can finally get the organization going in the right direction.
By the way, which NFL team you root for?

Are these the same Browns who used a 1st round pick last year for a QB? And a 3rd round pick in 2010 for a QB? And who traded their 2008 1st round pick PLUS their 2007 2nd round pick for a QB? So over the past 6 years the Browns have used two 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick for rookie QBs. Now they may use yet another 1st round pick for another QB??? How inept can an organization be?

Very inept. But also take into consideration all those other picks were under Randy Lerner's watch.

Still... taking a QB in the first round of this draft just isn't very smart...
The value just isn't there.

I agree with you. But as far as the other very questionable draft picks in the past the blame for that can't be placed on Jimmy Haslam's shoulders.

Couldn't believe they hired Lombardi in the first place. He must have blown some serious smoke up Haslam's hiney.

I don't think Randy ever really cared about the Browns. This was his father's team. I like Haslam's enthusiasm but I am a bit leery of some of his hires.
