08:16 AM ET 03.19 | On the day spring practice opened in Happy Valley, the question was already being asked of Penn State coach Bill O'Brien: Who's going to be the quarterback? Of course, at this time, the answer to the quarterback question isn't clear. Sophomore-to-be Steven Bench and junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson are the two candidates who are competing this spring. "They're both working at it," O'Brien said. ... "They both can throw the football and they can throw the ball accurately." But even if one of them wins the spring competition, he will have to contend with another quarterback: Christian Hackenberg. O'Brien said the true freshman will definitely be in the mix when he arrives for fall practice.
