Big man commits to Illinois
When Tyler Griffey heard three high school juniors had committed orally to Illinois, his interest in the Illini picked up, leading to his pledge last week to join them. "It was the recruits coming in," Griffey said Saturday while attending the Illinois-Purdue game with his family. "With three guards coming in and me being a big guy, you want to look at that." The 6-foot-8-inch forward from Ballwin, Mo., completes Bruce Weber's '09 recruiting class, which already included guards D.J. Richardson of Peoria Central, Joseph Bertrand from Sterling and Brandon Paul from Gurnee. They can sign letters of intent in November.

Go ILLINI! Assuming none of them are spineless like Eric Gordon and don't cower to their dad's wishes and become a Hoosier......hopefully Weber will have a nice class to restore Illinois to their rightful place atop the Big Ten

Technically, this is Weber's 7th commitment in the last 5 months, if you include Alex Legion, who will make an immediate impact. I'm not saying Legion is that overwhelming, but the need is that great and Legion will fit in well. I think Weber is finally thinking like a Major D-1 coach in terms of recruiting and the team will see the dividends in a couple years. I'd like to see 2 more big name recruits for the class of 2010 before I start making plans for any Final Fours, tho.
