Maple Leafs assign Korbinian Holzer, recall Jake Gardiner?

04:52 PM ET 03.19 | The Toronto Maple Leafs have assigned defenseman Korbinian Holzer to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on Tuesday afternoon. The move is somewhat surprising given that head coach Randy Carlyle made no mention of the move during his post-morning skate media availability. Logistically, Holzer was the only member of the team???s defense corps that could be moved to the AHL without waivers so it???s not all that surprising. Originally drafted with the No. 111 overall selection in the 2006 NHL Draft, Holzer played in 22 games this season and recorded three points. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Leafs have yet to announce if they will be recalling any one. There is speculation that the move was made in order to recall Jake Gardiner.
