Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh called his brother, Jim, to see if he would be interested in a trade for veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin. So was Jim suspicious that his sibling would call to propose a trade? "Oh, I'm sure he probably was suspicious," John Harbaugh said Tuesday morning at the NFL owners meetings at the Arizona Biltmore. But 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was not skeptical enough from making the trade come together in a matter of minutes on Monday, March 11, on the eve of the new league year. ... John Harbaugh made the initial phone call at 3:30 p.m. (ET), and within 30 minutes Baalke and Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome worked out the details.

It was a great deal for SF, and it kept Boldin from going to another AFC team, and the Ravens weren't going to pay him what he wanted.

Am I the only one who thinks that the patriots would have paid a lot more than that to get Boldin? ... I think he would have been the ultimate receiver for Brady - even better than Welker in the slot... Boldin is bigger, stronger, and better hands... I'm guessing it was the AFC thing and that they would never have gotten the chance to bid for him...

No doubt. Based on the current schedule rotation, they knew that the only chance of a meeting between the Ravens and the 49ers over the next two seasons, was in the Super Bowl.

Not even close. Another team had offered Baltimore a 7th round pick for Boldin. John H. called Jim H. and said; so and so team wants Boldin for a 7th, you want to make a better bid? Jim H. talked to Baalke and he nodded his head, or was he taking a nap ?
Was it collusion that Alex Smith went to KC ? Arizona thinks so. They wanted Alex Smith and can't understand why SF didn't trade with them, a divisional foe. After all there seems to be awfully strong ties between SF and KC, isn't that where SF sends all their old or discarded QB's?
COLLUSION is one of those great lawyerly scare words. Why not just call it for what it is, Nepotism, and nepotism is rampant in every facet of life. Besides did they break a NFL rule? This all happened just a couple of hours before Baltimore would have had to release Boldin.

What? Collusion is when a group of employers (read teams) get together to artifically lower the costs of fielding a team by agreeing to not bid on the services of each others free agents or setting unwritten rules about salary ranges for players. How did that happen here?
One team called another about trading a player under contract. The other team returned the call. They agreed on the exchange of play for a draft pick. What am i missing?
