Tigers have cause for concern in Fister

08:14 AM ET 03.20 | On the upside, Doug Fister's spring troubles aren't related to the strain that sidelined him for a month last year or the finger soreness that plagued him last spring. But, there is reason to be concerned. At least, slightly concerned. "For some reason, his delivery and release point has been all out of whack," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday. "And, it was today, again." For the third straight start, Fister battled command issues with his fastball, and -- in turn -- gave up seven runs, two earned, on seven hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings. "I'm not happy with where I'm at right now," Fister said. "This is frustrating."

this is just another reminder: "You can never have enough pitching".

He gave up a grand slam to Luke Scott yesterday. Ouch.

Anybody remember Pirates pitcher Steve Blass? Maybe Fister is going the same route?

We also have Rick Ankiel as a more recent example...I think Blass' problems were so bad that he just walked everybody, hard to get a hit off him.

My big question...did Doug really Fister?

I think he's panning out more and more like Doyle Alexander. Great acquisition leading the Tigers to the playoffs, then kinda fizzles out afterwards.

Huh? Doyle Alexander came to the Tigers at the very end of his career when he was 36 years old, had one amazing half season in Detroit then flamed out bad with ERAs near mid 4. Fister on the other hand came to the Tigers in 2011 when he was......27. Fister followed up his sub 2 ERA in 2011 with a very good 2012 ERA of 3.45 and followed that up with a 1.40 ERA in the 2012 playoffs.

Both are tall, lanky, white soft tossing starting pitchers who have played or play for the Tigers. That's about where the similarities end.
