Whatever questions Vaughn Telemaque might have had were erased after his visit. Friday night, on a recorded interview on Fox Sports Net, the nation's sixth-best safety, according to Scout.com, decided he was buying into the magic Shannon produced in recruiting for the Hurricanes. Telemaque, a 6-foot, 195-pound safety out of Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, passed on Southern Cal and became commitment No. 27.

Go Canes!

I really don't blame him because Carroll has lost the trust of some players and potential recruits. Pete plays the politics game when it comes to playing time and some recruits rather not play that game. They figure, if I'm the best at my particular position, and I've been working hard at practice, then I should start. It doesn't always work out that way at SC, need proof, check their rushing stats for '07.

February 3, 2008  11:45 AM ET

he'd rather be another Florida school thug and not worry about academics -- go in peace -- see you in jail sometime

February 3, 2008  11:47 AM ET

arejaydub -- playing half-time at USC is better than full-time anywhere else -- IF you can produce -- one year's rushing stats for a group of underachieving runners is hardly evidence that Carroll 'plays politics' -- what players, exactly, have 'lost trust' in Coach Carroll -- name 'em, or shut up

February 3, 2008  12:53 PM ET

tarnishedsilverblackzero, you must be a Raider fan, talking shizzznit like that. Fool, look at the rushing stats and analyze them, if you're capable. Everyone knew Sanchez was better than Booty. Why was Reed returning punts last year and he could barely walk? Why did they pass so much? You're a die-hard SC fan and that's cool. However, if you're satisfied or content with the current state of the program, then you are truly a fool.

February 3, 2008  01:00 PM ET

He's a DB, goin to DBU

February 3, 2008  01:01 PM ET

BTW tarnishedsilverblackzero, you did make ONE legitimate point in regards to the academic standards at the U in comparison to SC. With two of his former teammates from Long Beach Poly having flunked out of SC, it'd be better that he go elsewhere. I'm not going to post their names, but you the die-hard should know who they are, Biiiiiiyutch!!!!

February 3, 2008  02:14 PM ET

silverblack23. Are you honestly "bragging" about Pete's academic record at USC? Better keep your focus on what his players do on the field not the classroom. Very few of them get degrees.

February 3, 2008  04:25 PM ET

im so tired of everybody bashin the canes for arrests!!!texas, tenn and fla to just name a few have had more arrests lately then miami.give it a rest!!

February 3, 2008  04:33 PM ET

give the canes 2 yrs and there going to have the swagger back that everybody else tries to copy.nobody can do it like the CANES!!!!!

February 3, 2008  05:09 PM ET

anyone, including arejaydub, who thinks that the football or academic program at any school in Florida is better than the football or academic program at USC deserves whatever they get -- but this is American, and each individual is entitled to an opinion, no matter how erroneous -- go Bears!

February 3, 2008  05:11 PM ET

hey arejaydub -- I still would like you to name one TALENTED player who has said, publicly, that he has lost faith/confidence/trust in Pete Carroll -- and did that player than transfer to another school and earn All-America honors followed by a fat NFL contract?

February 3, 2008  05:51 PM ET

Silverblack....are u Al Davis? Boy u seem a lil unsure of urself, and lost in the world. Usc is a great school, but Miami was, and is back on its way to being the Nations best NFL PRODUCER OF TALENT! Why wouldnt a DB want to play at a school where they have produced so many legit stars??? This just goes to show Shannon dont rest until he gets his guys....we may have lost Johnson to LSU but that kid got paid to switch schools....

February 4, 2008  12:10 AM ET

say there, tru-dolfan -- how many Miami players on the SuperBowlChampionGiants? Feagles thepunter and Moss, a wide receiver -- but I believe SteveSmith is from USC -- yes?

February 4, 2008  03:46 AM ET

feagles, moss, william joseph DT..and that shockey guy..4 is pretty good but i guess 1 is better...

February 4, 2008  04:20 AM ET

tarnishedsilver, does EMMANUEL MOODYring a bell?. He was decent, but he did the right thing and transferred. Who said the U was better than SC? Read my comments thoroughly. Moody has already transferred, along with a WR (Spanish surname) whose name I can't think of. If Sanchez is the starter at QB for the next two years, where does that leave Mustain? What happens to Corp? Best believe that the two of them are weighing their options. There have been plenty of meetings with Carroll, players & parents to discuss playing time. When a player & parent have to meet with the head coach behind closed doors, something's wrong. I don't know what kind of access you have in Dunsmuir, but I'm a hop, skip and jump away from SC's campus and with my SOURCES within the program, I think I'm a lot better informed than you.

February 4, 2008  09:34 AM ET

This kid knows that the Canes know safeties.

February 4, 2008  11:07 AM ET

hey there arejaydub -- if you're just a hop, skip and a jump away from USC and therefore in the know -- who would you bring in to replace Carroll after Garrett takes your advice and fires him because his top rated, RoseBowl perennial Trojan players have lost confidence in him? being close [as in 'near'] to something doesn't mean that you understand or appreciate it. I believe SI or ESPN did a story on exacting why players go to USC knowing that they will have to compete against kids as good or better, and knowing that they may not get all the playing time -- that does not make Carroll a bad coach, nor does it make any football program in Florida 'better' --

February 4, 2008  11:48 AM ET

Who said Carroll was a bad coach? Who said Miami was better? Who said fire Pete Carroll? Carroll is a great recruiter and motivator, I'll give him that. However, his arrogance is unnerving. For example, Toby Jackson, the heralded defensive lineman out of Georgia that's expected to sign with the 'Dawgs, said he was caught off-guard when Carroll phoned him last week. Excuse the pun but for Pete's sake, Carroll feels he can make a last minute call and lure a recruit away from a school that has been reruiting him all along. The SI/ESPN story is old news, as Carroll copied the McKay/Robinson blueprint. Former Trojans that played on those 70s teams have told me that practice was more intense then the games. Competition for playing time was fierce, and to Carroll's credit, he has duplicated that since taking over the program.

February 4, 2008  12:16 PM ET

SC would have liked to keep him. The fact of the matter is Poly kids are a crap shoot. DeSean Jackson went to Cal, Donovan Warren went to UM. They leave bc they're promised to start as freshman. Poly kids, just at SC the past few years, on more than one occasion, have had numerous off the field problems. Look at Winston Justice, Manny Wright, Vincent Joseph, and Travon Patterson.

WHY WAS SHOCKEY IN A BOX AND NOT ON THE FIELD WITH HIS TEAMMATES???
