Jerry Jones expects Tony Romo to receive extension 'soon'

12:29 PM ET 03.20 | Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says that a contract extension for quarterback Tony Romo should be coming soon, according to ESPN.com. The polarizing quarterback is entering the final year of his current contract in which he is scheduled to make $11.5 million in base salary. However, his cap hit is a robust $16.8 million, something that would certainly go down with an extension. Considering how much Joe Flacco was paid by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this offseason (SIX years, $120 million with $52 million guaranteed), Romo would be in for a massive payday. Look for Romo to end up with something in the neighborhood of five years and $85 million, ensuring he will remain in Dallas. Of course, Flacco earned his money in the postseason with terrific clutch play, something Romo has been allergic to since becoming Dallas' starter in 2006. The Eastern Illinois product is also 32 years old and will be 33 in April. How many years can the Cowboys realistically expect out of him before Romo's skill set begins to erode? Last season, Romo threw for a career-high 4,903 yards on an incredible 648 attempts. In his career, Romo has tossed 177 touchdowns compared to 91 interceptions.

"How many years can the Cowboys realistically expect out of him before Romo's skill set begins to erode?"

A really loaded question. Be careful how you answer.

Flacco set the bar and now all the QBs better than him will break it!

I think some would say that has already started.

No, the Ravens moved the bar. Flacco was just the beneficiary. A player can demand whatever he wants, it's up to the team to reach that demand.

LOL we beat your **** twice last year!

Neither one of us have much to brag about. And it seems we may continue to suck since neither Vick or Romo is the franchise savior. Still makes me chuckle though!!

Jerry's idea of a QB was Quincy Carter, Drew Henson, Chad Hutchinson. Then Romo comes in as a undrafted free agent and, if it wasn't for Parcells, he wouldn't be on the team.

When Romo leaves I'm sure Jerry will find another Quincy Carter.

Agreed. Romo should get paid with Fantasy money since he is only good for the Cowboys in a Fantasy League and not were it counts FTW IMO.

flacco earned his money in postseason with terrific cluctch play..... something romo will never do for this team. and as the eagle fan commented, i'm sure EVERY other NFL team is pleased to hear dallas is giving romo another extension. it practically guarantees them a victory if they ever play dallas in an elimination game.
