Steelers happy with locker room leadership

08:09 PM ET 03.20 | Since last season ended a disappointing 8-8 for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the topic du jour has been leadership -- or more importantly the lack of leadership in the Steelers' locker room. Since the season ended, guys like Antonio Brown and Hines Ward have spoken about the Steelers' lack of leadership, but if you ask Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, he will tell you that there is no leadership issue at all in his locker room. Tomlin also mentioned that he doesn't believe that any of the departures in recent years or the complaints about a dysfunctional locker room is a sign that the team has lost its way. However the facts would contradict what Tomlin is trying to preach.

I think the malcontents are now gone (Mendenhall & Wallace) so I think Romping is right about this.

It wasn't a leadership issue, it was an injury issue. When you've got a good number of your main guys banged up it's tough to win and when it's tough to win it's tough to keep that smile on your face. The Steelers will be fine.

We've got more shiny footballs in our case than anybody, a third of them from recent teams. They have a franchise quarterback and a good coach, they'll be fine. As long as the defense can keep its head above water.

These are the kinds of stories that come up when you're not winning. The Ravens had to deal with it last Halloween, and their season turned out ok.
