The six teams scouting Porcello

08:08 AM ET 03.21 | The Rick Porcello Show continues to gain viewership, even in a spring training game between Class A affiliates of the Tigers and Astros. [Porcello], the subject of trade speculation, started the minor-league game because it was his day to pitch and the parent club was off. Yet it quickly became evident -- as it has been evident all spring -- that if the Tigers move Porcello, they're nuts. Oh, and lest anyone forget: He's entering his fifth full season, and is still only 24. ... The Tigers obviously are willing to trade Porcello, as evidenced by the number of scouts in attendance Wednesday. The Padres, Rangers, Red Sox, Orioles, Dodgers and Cardinals all were represented, according to major-league sources.

If the Tigers are serious about moving him, it has got to be to a team that has abundance of relief pitching help. You can rule out the O's and Red Sox because you don't trade within the division.

While I certainly believe in the axiom that "You can never have too much pitching", I would like to point out the axiom (if it ain't it, then it should be an axiom) "You should never overpay for that pitching."
Consider for your perusal the present day conditions of pitchers like Lackey, Halladay & Grienke (and these are just the ones who immediatley come to mind) ... Each of these pitchers are aguably at a crossroads in their careers and each has had an extreme amount of monetary investment made regarding their contracts by their relative teams. Money, that as it may prove out to be, not so well spent.
Pitching is one of the most valuable if not msot valuable (ok, thats arguable but I tend to believe it) positions on a team but they are also one of the most fragile positions on a team as well.
So I iterate in another way the preceding axioms: You can't always get what you want but if you try sometime you just might get what you need and at a price you will be relativly satisfied with paying.
The bottom line: Yeah, check out whatever pitchers are being shopped but also remember: Buyer beware.

Sounds like the Tigers are in the same boat as the Red Sox were when they traded Bronson Arroyo. That didn't work out very well for Boston, and I don't think it will for Detroit.

Ummm FYI the Detroit Tigers (Porcello's team) play in the AL Central. Both of the teams you mentioned Red Sox and O's play in the AL East. An si.com link above could probably display a nice visual for you.

There were talks between Baltimore and Detroit earlier in the offseason, but they couldn't agree on the O's players involved. Closer Jim Johnson and some other relief pitchers were rumored.

At this point hold on to Porcello. They have a solid option if they do trade Porcello in lefty Drew Smyly. I'm skeptical Porcello has "turned the corner" as some have mentioned this ST, but who knows. He's throwing a curve instead of his slider (which tooo many times didn't dive just spun and very often was crushed as a result), but his career ERA and the fact he's a ground ball pitcher just doesnt' fit well on this team with its porous infield defense.

If Porcello were to be traded, I'd like to see him out in San Diego. However, I don't want him traded.
