Yanks to DL Jeter?

08:11 AM ET 03.21 | When it comes to Derek Jeter, many assume the captain will exceed expectations, even at his advancing age. But it is possible that not even Jeter will be able to make the Yankees' opening day lineup less than sixth months after fracturing his left ankle and needing surgery to repair it. ... General Manager Brian Cashman not only acknowledged that Jeter might not be ready, but also conceded that he could begin the season on the disabled list. "He is, as we all know, a remarkable individual," Cashman said. "Because of who he is, I can't count anything out. But because of the time frame I can't say that it's not possible he might not be ready, given how much time we have left. I'm sure he wouldn't be happy with anybody breathing that."

Better to DL him now than maybe lose him for a much longer period later in the season because he tried to come back too early from his operation. An ounce of prevntion is worth a pound of cure, eh?

So do it. The choice should not be his. The guy has not run full speed in a game yet.

I hear you, but this setback isn't a structural thing, its a swelling/stiffness issue
With the shot, he should be fine....and that stiffness feeling may never go away
Its a day to day thing and honestly, if he isn't in the opening day lineup -even if he's just the dh- with all the injuries we've had......and the lack of cash addressing the holes.......many Yankee fans might commit hari kari

Why do (most) Yankee fans hate Arod so much? And don't tell me it's the steroid thing, they hated him from day one(in a Yankee uniform)

If he needs to be on the DL then do it. They don't know if he'll be ready for opening day but the way things look and feel around here (wintery) it doesn't look we'll even be playing on April 1st.

Not true. Some maybe, but most were happy he put on the pinstripes initially. It's more about who he turned out to be.

It starts with that fake surly look he has when he bats. Look, he is the kind of guy you would hate if he worked in any office in the Country. It is his natural gift. He is a phony from the beginning, nothing real about him. That is why. A pompous, self serving you name it from there....

Not me. I actually have defended him in the past. But enough lying is enough. Hae is a prima dona phony and deserves whatever just desserts his narcisstic rearend gets.

Good answer. Covers it . I guess it comes down to he thinks he is better than he is. And above it all.

Simply put, he's weak.
I think that Yankees fans have always had a difficult time getting behind A-Rod because his insecurity always made him emotionally and mentally weak. Turning to steroids was just a severe symptom of the narcissism that the Yankees fans sensed all along.

Totally agree. Jeter is going to try to play no matter what. Even if his ankle is structurally sound, the discomfort he's feeling is going to cause him to compensate and risk injuring the other leg. Let him start the season on the DL and come back 100 percent.

And from Day one - he was paid WAY to much money to even come to NY. He's a narcissistic, myopic putz

I'm afraid he was always that way - it just got uncovered more with the media in NY....

Best to send Jeter to the glue factory at this point.
