08:16 AM ET 03.21 | Last year, Erik Karlsson rose quickly from the ranks of young guns, and, this year, it may be Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson. If [Ekman-Larsson] isn't the best defenseman in the NHL yet, he's certainly on the short list of candidates who are in the discussion. ... With Nicklas Lidstrom retired and [Karlsson] out for the season, the argument should probably include the likes of Boston's Zdeno Chara, Nashville's Shea Weber, Pittsburgh's Kris Letang, St. Louis' Alex Pietrangelo and, yes, Ekman-Larsson. He was my preseason Norris Trophy pick. And based on the way that he has played this season (and produced) given the assignments that he faces nightly, I haven't seen anything to make me change my mind on that pick.

Going from what I've seen of Ekman-Larsson, I could see why someone might make a case for him, but at the moment, I would think this is a 2 horse race between Letang, and Chara...

It really pains me to say this but I see this being the year Letang wins the Norris (Lidstrom) trophy, In my opinion the only person I see that can vault over him is Suter. But hey its what we play 82 games, I mean 1/2 a season for.
