Lohse wants Ryan Dempster money

08:09 AM ET 03.22 | If you're wondering what the wait is for Kyle Lohse, it may have something to do with the money. It would be an upset if the Colorado Rockies signed [Lohse]. But that hasn't stopped the Rockies from doing their due diligence. ... The Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers are maintaining contact with Lohse, sources say. Lohse's agent, Scott Boras, told MLB Network's Peter Gammons on Thursday that the pitcher will not wait to sign until after the June draft, when draft-pick compensation no longer would apply. "We have too many teams in play," Boras said. Lohse, sources say, wants to at least match Ryan Dempster's two-year, $26.5 million with the Boston Red Sox.

13 million a year some sort of magic number for the Red Sox. Lohse should forget about it (unless he signs with the Red Sox).

Someone might pay him that but he is not worth it, in my unhumble opinion.

Simple. Provide 200 innings. 11 wins.

March 22, 2013  08:46 AM ET

Preemptive wishful thinking. Time to come back to earth.

March 22, 2013  08:56 AM ET

It's called Dempster envy. Jan Brady is steamed that his sister landed a nice contract instead.

I agree with your unhumble opinion.

Funny it is, really. Boras is hot because the new free-agent compensation system took away some of his bullets. Ah well.

I agree with both of you too...

Lohse is worth about $7-8m in baseball money.

$13 is ridiculous and precisely why StL said good luck brother...the Cards will not overpay when we have a good farm system to rely on.

Ahh, the daily Lohse thread...

I'd be happy with the league minimum.

He's not worth $13 million per year, but he's better than Dempster.

But for one year he is. I think that is the rub.

I sure that is what Lohse has been telling himself on a daily basis. Dempster's contract has obviously been a sore spot of bitterness with him since it was signed. The problem is is that no other team actually believes Lohse is better. I'll bet he can't figure that one out

Yes and Rick Springfield wants "Jessie's Girl".......................go pound sand Kyle, you ain't all that and a bag of chips.

But Dempster didn't cost Boston it's 1st round draft pick. So Dempster is more valuable.

That is the kicker. I think they are pretty close, quality wise, but no one wants to give up the draft pick to sign Kyle.

Why wouldn't the Cards want him back for $13M? If they were willing to pay him that before arb. why not now?
