08:17 AM ET 03.22 | The ink barely dried on his new, 10-year deal at New Mexico, Steve Alford wakes up Friday on the wrong side of an upset. After one of the most impressive seasons in The University of New Mexico's basketball history, it all came to a stunning end with a 68-62 loss to 14th-seeded Harvard in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. ... Alford said the team's poor shooting would be a focal point in the offseason. The Lobos won nine games this year while shooting under 40 percent; they shot just 37.5 percent Thursday to cap a season that was their worst shooting percentage (less than 42 percent) in 50 years. "We can't shoot for them," Alford said. "It's all part of the game. We have had games like that."

Let's see... fielding a team of players who can't shoot... where exactly does that fault lie?

I watch alot of their games and I saw that they could not make a basket if they wanted too plus they were a very slow team with no speed.I knew when they ran into a B1G team they would have been blown off the court. But they ran into Harvard coach by a very good and up comeing coach.Next year when New Mexico players growup they will be a very good team that will make the final four.

AS for you like 99% of the time you do not know what you are talking about.I know New Mexico seeing I live here and that is what they talk all the time on their news.coach Alford is a very good coach and has won the leauge 4 out of 6 times.Plus New Mexico has a very great fan base better than alot of teams.Yes they are slow and at times can not shoot but they are a very young team.Like their football team they will be a teams to deal with soon.MICHIGAN WINS IT ALL.

There is a reason that Steve Alford coaches at New Mexico. He is not a good enough coach to land a job in a major conference. Perhaps if they would drop down to a lower division.....

Not at all true. Both of UNM's big men (Cameron Bairstow and Alex Kirk) are very good players, particularly Kirk, who will almost definitely be a first round draft pick once he leaves college. UNM's big men were an integral part of the team's successful 2012-13 campaign.
I caught a LOT of Lobos games this year, and I can tell you assuredly that Bairstow and Kirk are neither slow nor stiff. Kirk is actually something of a mini-Nowitzki, except he's actually taller. But his game is reminiscent of Dirk's. Perhaps I should say Baby Dirk instead of mini, but whatever... point is they were two really good players for the Lobos, and even in the shocking loss to Harvard they played fairly well. Kirk finished with 22 points and 12 boards; Bairstow had 15 and 7.

Please...
Not worth arguing but you're way off on Alford. And UNM, for that matter.
