Contract issues loom for Wild

08:19 AM ET 03.22 | Coming off two significant offseason mega-signings and going through what has become a very nice regular season, the Wild also have to keep an eye on the future bottom line. With prospects like Charlie Coyle, Jason Zucker, Mikael Granlund and even Johan Larsson, Brett Bulmer and Zack Phillips all on entry-level deals at the same time -- and Jared Spurgeon and Marco Scandella at the end of entry-level deals -- the Wild has to be able to afford to re-sign its own in a few years. "I don't know if it precludes us from making every move, but I don't know how smart it would be to take on a lot more long-term commitments at this point," General Manager Chuck Fletcher said.

Wait wait wait....you are telling me that when you signed Pairse and Suter to super duper mega deals in the same offseason you didn't have enough foresight cap issues in the future?

couldn't happen to a better bunch of guys. I hope that they have to ice a line-up filled with barely warm bodies.

Pretty sure ownership tried to get something in and the PA blocked it. With a response along the lines of "if you can't handle the contracts don't hand them out"

Didn't realize having 13.5 million in cap space next yr was an issue. The players mentioned aren't going to be getting more than 2-3 million each for an extension first time around. And with the possibility of Backstrom being let go with the talent they have coming up in net and Heater's contract up the next yr they will be fine this time around. I'm more worried about the next set of contact signings in 4-5yrs

This article is all hype, if last years Wild were in this postion and they made the moves at the trade deadline instead of the off season the article would be called "The Wild are Brillant", people are hating on the team for those contracts because of thier size but in reality the team made thier move early and are getting results. Chuck Fletcher did this with the Ducks. He'll make no adjustments to the team at the deadline and get some experience for the young guys. He'll probably resign backy in the offseason. And we all know by doing this the Ducks hoisted the cup the next year.
