08:21 AM ET 03.22 | If the Sharks are at a crossroads as the deadline nears, their options include doing nothing, blowing it all up or making minor tweaks. [Making minor tweaks] is the route Doug Wilson is most likely to take. ... They have some attractive pieces that many clubs, particularly in the Eastern Conference, might overpay for in Ryane Clowe, Jason Demers, Douglas Murray or even Dan Boyle. Depth scoring continues to be an issue even with players like Scott Gomez starting to put up some points, but other players like Clowe, James Sheppard, Tim Kennedy, Andrew Desjardins, Adam Burish, Michal Handzus, Tommy Wingels and Marty Havlat have all failed to produce on a regular basis. Havlat, especially, has been a huge disappointment.

Right now they are in the playoff picture but if you are counting on Gnomez for depth scoring you've really got issues...

I have a really scary feeling that the Leafs and Sharks' paths are about to cross deal-wise in a way i'd much rather them not.

San Jose dissappoint? But it's only March

If you have Gomez in your line-up that should be a big sign of the direction you're headed...

And it's no surprise that he leads the team at -10 in only 23 games. He also has one of the lowest shooting percentages on the team as well, so the 14 minutes they're giving this guy is actually a bigger detriment than not playing him at all. Their fortunes would probably change for the better if they cut him outright despite the fact that he's actually been scoring a little more lately.

I am going to go against the grain here and not blame the players. I believe the players have tuned McLellan out. The backbone of the Sharks has been defense, and it has kept them in the 90 percent of their games when they fail to score more than two goals. But for the last couple weeks, they have allowed at least three goals. If thier defense keeps sliding then of course its over and Doug Wilson has an easy choice. Keep McLellan and sell of the team for picks or keep everyone as is and go for a new system next year.

A shark may be an invertebrate but still has more of a spine than Thornton.
