Hartnell takes considerable heat in Philly

08:22 AM ET 03.22 | Philadelphia had a rare two-day break this week, leading to some shuffling of the lineup. Coach Peter Laviolette broke up all four lines -- then tried to advise not to read anything into that -- but Hartnell is now playing with Ruslan Fedotenko and Zac Rinaldo. ... [Hartnell's] unnecessary roughing call Monday night in Tampa is what got him benched. It's not the first time Laviolette has used him as an example to the team. Laviolette seems to use Hartnell more than others. "I wouldn't say 'whipping boy,' but it's definitely, there's been in the past, especially with Lavy, a message sent to me," Hartnell admitted. "I don't mind. I think I needed it, to be honest. Sit on the bench and watch the guys play."

Scotty obviously forgot that he wasn't playing the Pens, because he usually gets away with that sort of thing when he plays them.

We shall see if Philly wants any part of the playoffs this Sunday when they head to Pitt. I see it as their very last opportunity to start a run and it will have to be quite a run if it happens. They are only a few points behind the 8 seed and if you can't step it up for the Pens throw in the towel. I can hope right.

The teams they've lost to are either good (Pit, Boston), hot (Winnipeg, who beat Boston the other night) or lucky (Buffalo, two OT/SO wins vs. MTL/TOR). This isn't representative of the season as a whole.
