Race attendance dropping?

12:29 PM ET 03.22 | As the camera follows the lead car as it comes across the front stretch, you can't help but notice the empty seats in the stands. When the camera pans the crowd, the outline of the colored seat patterns can be clearly seen. Attendance on race weekends have been dipping for years and that was clearly evident this past weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. During Sunday's race broadcast, all around the track, you could see empty seats. It almost looked like there were more empty seats than there were seats filled. Bristol Motor Speedway is one of the most iconic tracks on the schedule and if they are struggling to fill seats, then something needs to be done. Looking at various ticket prices for racetracks across the country, the dollar amount isn't unreasonable. The average ticket package is under $100 for the weekend. Most tracks allow you to bring in your own coolers and some, like Kansas Speedway, even offer free parking at their venue. Once you get to the track, you definitely get what you pay for, if not more. There is always something you can do and things to see and as a race fan, you couldn't ask for more.

Is that a serious question about attendance?......we've been saying that for a few years now....hello!

Wow, that's an earth shattering observation, attendance is dropping. I wonder who figured that out. It's been in free fall for 3 or 4 years now. Wake up Nascar.

Don't know what tracks they're talking about with the 'average' ticket price is under $100.. maybe the back-stretch.. races I've gone to at Kentucky and Bristol.. the 'average' ticket price isn't under $100.. at Bristol.. wasn't anywhere close to the track where you didn't have to pay for parking.. at least $20.. so try lowering 'ALL' ticket prices to under $100 and don't 'average' it out!!

Can't recall what I paid for Daytona 500 in '73 - 76 or so. Maybe $30 to $40 for good seats, and we thought that was expensive.

It's obvious that they have no clue at all.....sad.

attendance was low at bristol because of the threat of rain.. all the other races this year have looked pretty full

I seem to think each race they are missing a LOT of fans in the stands....

The Nationwide wreck and engine flying into the fans area didn't help much either.....
