01:53 PM ET 03.22 | The University of Alabama officially announced Bill Battle as the schools new athletic director Friday morning. Battle replaces Mal Moore, who announced his retirement due to health issues Wednesday. The Alabama Board of Trustees unanimously approved the choice of Battle, who becomes the first new athletic director in Tuscaloosa in 14 years. Battle played football at Alabama under legendary head coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, and he has been a successful businessman since the 1970's. In 2007, he sold Collegiate Licensing Company, which he founded in 1981, for more than $100 million.
