Blake Griffin, Vinny Del Negro disagree on Clippers' defensive woes

09:58 AM ET 03.23 | Los Angeles Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro believes his team's defense will get better over the final 13 games of the season, although his reasoning is based largely on how poor their defense has been of late. "I don't think it can get any worse, so let's look on the bright side," Del Negro said after practice Friday. "Let's flip it around. Glass is half full, right?" "Our bigs are getting stretched out a little bit," Del Negro said. "They have to have a little sense of urgency in closing out. Some guys can make that adjustment, and some guys are struggling with that but drilled it again today. That's obviously an area of concern." Clippers forward Blake Griffin disagreed with Del Negro. "It depends on our defensive strategy and our defensive principles for that game," Griffin said. "We switch them every single game. I don't see that, no, but I'm biased." Griffin, however, did think the Clippers had the ability to turn around their defense before the playoffs begin next month.

A Clipper thread! Yeah!

They both think the defense can improve over the final part of the season. That's the important part and at least they agree on that.

VDN = Stupid, horrible coach. He must go!

Who would you prefer as a coach for this Clipper team?

March 23, 2013  10:58 AM ET

None of the Clippers 'Bigs' would be considered defensive stoppers. The Clippers need to rely on team defense especially in the playoffs.

JVG. Idk really, just not a big fan of VDN is all. Never have been, probably never will be.

Look, VDN took this job when basically nobody really wanted it. He got BG32 in the draft and then CP3 via trade and now we have put together a couple of nice seasons. Just seems that when we play anybody with an above average coach, VDN can't make the in-game adjustments needed. Just an opinion though.

That applies to D'umbtoni as well. Both great teams with great players but with really bad coaches.

Defense is for Championship teams.

So, let the Clips stick with the Sports Center plays of the days and an early summer vacation.

Nothing wrong with Vinnie. They have some players who definitely lack in the defensive aspect of the game. Vinnie is rotating the minutes which is a big part of the chemistry. Looking for another December run....

All Blake can do is dunk the ball...........doesnt rebound so he can be out on the break so he can dunk the ball

He can posterize little guys!

March 23, 2013  10:32 PM ET

And he alsways does it with his forearm jutting out from his chest. So many of his posterizations are actually offensive fouls. And when he gets away with it, he glares like "I'm so bad." He got bounce, but he's not an all-around player, so not great at this point, anyway.

The kids a beast, but he needs to work on a mid-range jumper besides a dunk.
