12:40 PM ET 03.23 | New Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman spoke about a number of topics in Arizona on Wednesday, including quarterback Jay Cutler's mechanics. Trestman said he watched a lot of Cutler's film and noted that while Cutler's mechanics were fine in many instances, they could be more consistent. "He has the ability to have precision mechanics, high-level mechanics," Trestman said. "At times, he has them. And at times, he doesn't. But that would be [true] for anybody in the league." Cutler at times is prone to throw off of his back foot, and there are other areas in which his technique is sometimes lacking. Trestman said that quarterbacks at any age have room to improve their mechanics, adding that "Jay has the ability and the skill set to be very, very good at the mechanics all the time."

Don't hold your breath.

The Bears should invest in foam padding technology for Cutler's sake.

Throwing off his back foot is probably not something he chooses. Over the last 4 years, he's one of the most sacked QBs in the league.

Check the numbers. Sure, it looks like he did pretty well in 2011. Til you realize that he missed 6 games.

Cutler is overrated in my opinion.

March 23, 2013  01:09 PM ET

The Bears should draft another QB.

More overrated, Cutler, Romo or Rivers?

I seem to remember his mechanics being pretty good when he played in Denver, but I think he's always had a tendency to believe that he can power the ball past DB's with pure arm strength and that tends to bite him.

March 23, 2013  02:05 PM ET

Perhaps if he had offensive linemen who gave him enough time to throw the ball and receivers who were consistently where they were supposed to be, he might have better results.

March 23, 2013  02:08 PM ET

Why, can't they keep his car running?

March 24, 2013  09:21 AM ET

He has every single tool to be great. He just needs a head transplant.

March 24, 2013  02:00 PM ET

Very excited to see what Trestman can do to help. Cutler has had 3 different OC's in the last 4 years. Not ALL on him, but somewhat.

Can't argue with that logic. Really they have no where to go but up.............
