01:05 PM ET 03.23 | The Baltimore Orioles will not move their game against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, Sept. 5, which means the Baltimore Ravens will open the season on the road. The Ravens were scheduled to open the 2013 NFL regular season at home on that same day, but they were not able to work out a solution to the scheduling conflict with the Orioles. The Ravens and Orioles worked together to try to find a schedule configuration that would work for both organizations, but as the O's said in their official statement on the matter, "the parties jointly determined that even an earlier start time [to the baseball game] would still create such enormous logistical difficulties that it would greatly diminish the fan experience for both events which all parties realized would not be in the interest of their fans or the City." Ravens president Dick Cass issued a statement thanking the Orioles for the cooperation, and noted that parking issues combined with rush hour traffic were among the factors that led to the decision to move the Ravens game.

You know, the NFL could move the game. I hate Thursday night games. Why not Friday nights? Why not Saturday evenings?
The NFL and the Ravens are blaming the Orioles, but the tradition of a Thursday night game to open the season is only a few years old.

Given how bad everyone thinks the Ravens are going to be this year, maybe they should play all their games on the road.

They switched the date of last season's opener to make way for Obama's nomination speech. Why can't they switch dates now?

Maybe it's just what's wrong with MLB. They play too many damn games. It's amazing any city with similar stadium/traffic limitations can play home games.

they can't move one ''stupid'' baseball game [out of 162] to a 1-pm/time slot for one day,.......just think of all the revenue that the city will mi$$ with a two-sport ''double-header'',....and never mind what this has taken-away from the NFL fans who waited a dozen years for this one special-night....$hame on baseball = $AD !!,......and i'm a pats fan.

So let me get this straight. A baseball game, one of 162, is more important than the reigning Super Bowl Champions being able to open their season at home? Yeah that sounds about right.

I'm not sure about Fridays, but I'm pretty sure there's non-compete language in either the TV contracts or the anti-trust exemptions that prevent the NFL from airing games on days when there is college football. Fridays may have something to do with high school football, but I'm not as certain on that one.
But that might be why they chose Thursday and Monday as their alternates for Sundays.
