05:06 PM ET 03.23 | Ray Williams, the former New York Knicks guard who spent 10 seasons in the NBA, passed away Friday. He was 58. Drafted by New York with the 10th overall pick in the 1977 NBA Draft, Williams spent five years with the franchise before bouncing around the league with numerous other teams, including Boston and Atlanta. He battled some issues later in life following his retirement, but will forever be remembered for performances like his 52-point outburst at Madison Square Garden in 1982. During the 1980-81 season, his best season in New York, Williams averaged 20 points per game while leading the Knicks to a 50-32 record.

Williams had a good career averaging 15 ppg and almost 6 apg. It's hard to believe that he lost his fortunes from playing basketball so quickly, RIP Ray Williams.
