07:43 AM ET 03.24 | We hear that after being badly outbid by St. Louis for Jared Cook, Miami made a late run at Martellus Bennett, but the Bears offered him a bit more. The Dolphins then signed Dustin Keller. They love Keller's receiving skills, but Joe Philbin admitted "we have to work with him" on blocking.

Dolphins dodged a bullet there.

Just how far was Miami under the cap to start the FA season? They seem to have money to chase almost every FA this year!

Only $5.2 million of that four year deal the Bears gave him was guaranteed. I would say the dolphins did not run at him too hard. More like a walk.

Bennett might not be that great, but he sure was a godsend for the Giants the last couple of years, given their tight end situation. I wish him well wherever he ends up.

He played one year for the Giants. Did yeoman work for sure, but not much different than Boss or Ballard stat wise. And that was on a one year contract. Let us see how he does with that contract in his pocket.

Is there a rule somewhere that Miami has to try and sign every free agent?

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Yeah, but if your the GM, isn't a wholesale junking of the team and hiring every free agent you can kind of indicating you screwed up every year you've been there? That you've never really had a plan in the first place?
