How Kevin Durant kept Scott Brooks in OKC

02:04 PM ET 03.24 | Thunder coach Scott Brooks was tempted last summer to leave. He and Oklahoma City had yet to agree upon a contract extension, and general manager Sam Presti was reportedly not offering him the high-level contract that he arguably deserved. But the Portland Trail Blazers were showing interest. With negotiations going well on that end, Thunder star Kevin Durant took action. Prompted by assistant coach Rex Kalamian to reach out, Durant shot his head coach a text message, and the rest is history. "During negotiations, it can be stressful at times," Durant told The Oklahoman. "One day it looks like something's going to get done and then the next it might not. So I reached out to him and just told him I loved him and let me know what happens."

I doubt Brooks was going anywhere unless Presti wanted him to work for free. No coach, (Brooks) would walk away from a team like OKC with whats been built the last couple of seasons.

I thought the story was leading to something along the lines of Durant demanding front office to do whatever it takes to keep Brooks or else.

Who cares, they would have gotten Phil Jackson and he would make them a champion.
