KG tops LeBron in MVP survey
So this very well could be the year that LeBron James gets his first Most Valuable Player Award, right? After all, no one can compete with his stats and his profile has never been higher. Um, no, at least not at this point. The Beacon Journal contacted 35 likely MVP voters to take the race's temperature. There are roughly 125 voters, so this is a healthy sample, and it was spread around to all areas of the country to avoid any Eastern or Western Conference bias. So how many think James is the MVP right now? The answer, if you are a James fan, might surprise you. If you've followed the NBA for any period of time, though, it probably won't. James got just four votes, and even some of those were tentative and came with caveats from the voters. It's the same number of voters who believe New Orleans point guard Chris Paul, who just became an All-Star for the first time, is the MVP of the moment. That tied him for second with James in the poll, ahead of Bryant, who got three votes. New Boston Celtics arrival Kevin Garnett is the leader right now, getting 63 percent of the vote.

I do not believe players on winning teams should be more likely to win the MVP award. KG did not become 20x better by becoming a Celtic, he was always KG
Last season actually KG had more rebounds (NBA leader), blocks, steals, and assists. Dirk scored 2.2 ppg more than KG did but Dirk still won.
Hard to argue with who deserves the MVP this year but I think the MVP award is a joke.

I'm a KG guy, and he has been very valuable to what he brought offensively, defensively, and him teaching the young guys off the court. But I don't think latelty that he has done enough to be the MVP. While he doesn't score much in their wins, it is clear in their losses that if the team is struggling that he will start to shoot more and pad his stats. But I honestly think CP3 is the MVP, for what he has done for that team, being right at the top of the western conference.

This isn't really a surprise to anyone except LeBron fans. Boston has gone from worst to first. Boston was 24-58 last year. They will win at the very least 60 games this season. Much of that turn-a-round can be directly attributed to the play of Garnett. Cleveland was 50-32 last year and may or may not surpass last years record. To do so they would need to go 24-8 the rest of the season. So while LeBron has elevated his level of play, the Cavs haven't really improved. Chris Paul deserves to be ahead of James for the same reasons as Garnett.

Garnett deserves the MVP talk. He doesn't have the stats that he normally has, but it's because of his unselfish play that he is truly the star of the Big Three. He is doing the dirty work for the Celtics right now, and that dirty work could lead this team to the title.

Why does it hurt lebron that his teammates suck? Yet he still has his team fighting for homecourt for the first rounds in the playoffs and he is having the best statistical season this year by far. Cavs are 0-6 with lebron out. KG also has Ray Allen and Paul Pierce to help carry the load. Lebron has Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden.
Its not even comparable, Lebron is more VALUABLE to his franchise than KG. If the celtics had just added Ray Allen they would still be a playoff team this year. The cavs would be wondering who to take with the #1 pick this summer if it weren't for Lebron

LeBron has the same team he had last year, and they aren't doing as well. While it is true that he makes the Cavs what they are, they aren't doing as well as last year. By contrast Chris Paul and the Hornets have the best record in the West with the same team he had last year.

KOBE, KOBE, KOBE....Kobe needs at least one make-up award...if u ask me, he was the MVP in the Lakers last title appearence, as well as the year before last, because of all he did just to keep that team afloat. (getting them to playoffs single handed) His off court foolery has undoubtly cost hom in the past years but now it's time to get over. He may not have MJ's attitude of team-guy demeanor, but he damn sure has his game, and his athletis talent...imagine MJ never winning an MVP, that's poposterous. i love KG and LeBron, but the league owes Kobe, so what he's jerk, and he's made some mistakes in the past.

CP3 for MVP. The turnaround he has ushered for the Hornets is remarkable. At this point in the season he is a clear #1 candidate. All that matters is this season. The fact that Bron took his team to the finals on his own last year does not factor into whether he wins the MVP this year. KG is a beast and is playing great but I don't think anyone thought he wouldn't be... No one thought CP3 would dominate the way he has, it's hard to win the MVP the first year you are in consideration for it, which is a dirty shame.

The Celts are a different team without KG.
Plus Hllywd is right about LeBron. I can't even add to that.

You can forget Kobe. Until the emergence of Bynum, the Lakers were a perennial .500 team and a 1st round exit. Kobe hangs up hollow stats that benefit noone but him. An MVP should elevate the team. Try comparing Kobe's stats with Chris Pauls'

KG has to be the MVP... he has changed the way Boston plays. If I am not mistaken, Boston has not had great seasons the past few years...why the change this year? KG! He is an extraordinary leader! To me the leadership and team play of a player are the most important aspects to an MVP award winner. I am not a fan of the Kobe-like players who would rather shoot the ball with 4 defenders around them than pass the ball. The most valuable part of any TEAM is the TEAM player! KG is a great leader, especially for the younger player like Baby Davis. KG = good leader, team player, impact player, MVP.

Now let's not forget about Mr Clean....Steve Nash, for he is a favorite fo the voters....remember.
I would think that C.Paul and KG would have the upper hand with D. Howard also...up there.
LeBron really needs to do the slam dunk thingy....to make some noise with voters?
