Kelly's message to Irish: You're 0-0

08:18 AM ET 03.25 | It's a brand new year in South Bend, and head coach Brian Kelly won't let his players forget it this spring. During his opening remarks of his spring kickoff press conference, [Kelly]established that the sterling 2012 season, one in which ND went unbeaten in the regular season and advanced to the BCS National Championship game, is gone. It's a message his players have heard, and are echoing. "We're a new team," fifth-year senior left tackle Zack Martin said. "We're not the 12-1 team from 2012. We're 0-0 and that's been the big message to us." One potential pratfall, Martin insisted, is this year's team assuming that last year's success will automatically carry over into 2013. "That's the thing we're trying to avoid."

OK Mr Literal. But the 0-0 message is important for them to internalize. That was a very tenuous 12-0. Can't expect all the chips to fall the same way two years in a row.

I'm not a football coach, but isn't everyone 0-0 at this point?

Folks are way serious this morning...

Good morning to all....

ND had a lot of luck going 12-0 and could have lost a few last year (i.e. Purdue, Pittsburgh, Stanford and maybe USC had Barkley played). I'm hoping that they are incrementally better this coming season so as to be able to put teams that they should beat away and not have it come down to last minute "heroics...".

I would think the last game they played would give them motivation for next season.

March 25, 2013  12:25 PM ET

Most ND fans act like they're 20-Pete National Champions and 500-0, and actually think they beat USC twice in the past 10 years.

0-0 will be impossible for most of them to visualize.

Yes. Though the previous team could have lost a bowl game in January, the seniors who played in it will not play again. New season. New team. 0-0. It's the way of things.

Yep, Tin Man's post unmolested here...

Kelly is copying Saban. Maybe he is learning something.
Kelley telling the Irish they are 0-0 is the same as Saban telling Bama that they haven't won anything yet.
