08:09 AM ET 03.26 | Depending on how the dominoes fall, free-agent defensive end Dwight Freeney could wind up in the Big Easy. The New Orleans Saints continue to wait on Nnamdi Asomugha's decision. If the cornerback chooses the San Francisco 49ers, a play for [Freeney] could be next for the Saints. That according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, who rightly points out the Saints still are attempting to improve the pass rush on their league-worst defense. Freeney has been linked to the Denver Broncos, who had the longtime Peyton Manning teammate in for a visit last week. Rapoport wrote on Twitter that he hasn't heard "much traction" on Freeney and the Broncos, though Denver might just be exploring all of its options after losing Elvis Dumervil.

Ersatz.

You'd think Denver would bring Freeney in to replace Elvis but maybe not.

It must be nice to be wanted for pass rushing skills that you once had and to be compensated for it...

I can't help but wonder if Freeny needs to be an end in a 4-3 again.

So, he was credited with 5 sacks last year and 10 tackles in a 16 game season. Sure, he should fit right in to that Saints defense.

Have not followed the Colts in the last year but were they a 3-4 last season??

I know during the Manning years they were a 4-3 Tampa 2 D.

Freeney should retire.

Bingo. He was VERY average in a 3-4 last year so the Saints make no sense.

With stats like that he'd be considered an over achiever on that D. Bad move by the Saints. You can't build a D with free agents, you can only complete one. If they were one or 2 players away from having a good D, Freeney and Asomugha would be good adds. However, the Saints are far from that type of Defense.

It's surprising that Freeny is still available.
