08:14 AM ET 03.26 | Brewers GM Doug Melvin insists the move to sign free-agent righty Kyle Lohse was not breaking from a commitment to younger pitchers, but he admitted, "We're a better ball club today than we were yesterday." Lohse has been throwing bullpen sessions and pitching simulated games to keep his arm in shape while waiting out what became an agonizing free-agent purgatory. He recently threw 90 pitches in a scrimmage against Scottsdale Community College and also had thrown to hitters at nearby Grand Canyon University. Lohse will throw a bullpen session Tuesday on the Brewers' day off and could pitch in an exhibition game as early as Thursday. He will open the season on the Brewers' active roster.

Two reasons why you are not better off, number one you are 13 million a year worst off in the pocket book, and number two you still will not win the division with 26 on your team, or will not make the playoffs either.

Don't understand Why a 3 year deal when there was no competition , especially this far into Free agency

A lot of teams who are better than the Brewers would have been in for a one or two year contract.

Living here in Brewerland, I'm almost guaranteeing he won't see year three and he may not see year two. Looking at how the deal is broken down (averaging $11 mill per year), he's only going to be making $4 million the first year. The other $7 million in year one is deferred until 2016-2018.
